Bio

UCLA – BS, MS Civil Engineering (2009, 2010)
UC Davis – PhD Civil Engineering (2018)

My primary research interests are in earthquake strong ground-motions. I have research and consulting experience in engineering seismology at AECOM Los Angeles (formerly URS Corp) since 2010. My research while at UC Davis (2014-2018) involved empirical ground-motion modeling of Fourier amplitude spectra, studying the interperiod correlation of these spectra, and the implications of the interperiod correlation on structural seismic risk. My research topics outside of the university include near-field effects of crustal earthquakes and attenuation of ground-motions in Central and Eastern North America.

My consulting experience includes deterministic and probabilistic seismic hazard analyses, fault displacement analyses, earthquake ground-motion simulations, and other location- and site-specific ground-motion studies. I have extensive consulting experience in ground-motion time history modification for the dynamic analyses of critical infrastructure, including dams, bridges, and nuclear facilities.

I have had the good fortune of working with and under several highly respected and influential people in engineering seismology, notably Dr Paul Somerville, Dr Norm Abrahamson and Dr Christine Goulet. I am grateful to each of them for their support and guidance. I also have great respect for Dr David Boore, whose mindset about the sharing of information and resources (daveboore.com; if you are reading this, you have probably already been there) motivated the creation of this page.

Family

My family is my pride and joy.  The 4 D’s in my life are: Dana, Dylann, Devin and Donovan.

Other Stuff

I enjoy playing and watching basketball (go Kings!), exploring the outdoors with my wonderful wife Dana, and more recently enjoying the outdoors by mountain biking in the beautiful foothills of the Sierra Nevada range. Afterwards, I like beer; mostly IPAs but will try anything from sours to stouts, malty to hoppy.
